ASIRPA Writing Contest (IFWC)
The Asian Society for International Relations and Public Affairs (ASIRPA) now invites students and professionals to take part in the upcoming Indonesia Focus Writing Contest (IFWC). The theme for this year is
“How to Make the Earth a Better Place”.
“How to Make the Earth a Better Place”.
The competition will be divided into two categories; the first is for junior and senior high school students and the second is for college students and professionals. The first, second, and third place winner of the first category will be awarded a cash prize of $250, $100, and $50 respectively, and the first, second, and third place winner of the second category will be awarded a cash prize of $350, $250, and $100 respectively. Winners of the second category will also have the opportunity to publish their paper in the Journal of ASIRPA (JASIRPA).
The paper should be written in English, typed, double-spaced, using 12 point Times New Roman font, on standards-sized paper (8.5” x 11”) with 1 inch margins on all sides. Please maintain consistency with your preferred citation style (only for college students and above). The length of the paper should be between 3000-5000 words.
You may submit more than one paper. However, you should be the sole author of your paper(s). We don't accept a paper with more than one author. The paper should be received by March 31, 2011.
Winners of the contest will be announced during the third annual ASIRPA conference on May 28-29, 2011 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We will also notify the winners via e-mail.

Master and Doctoral Scholarships by France Government
The French Government, through its Embassy in Jakarta, has been providing excellence scholarships to Indonesian citizens for more than 29 years. In order to pursue its objective to support Indonesian human resources, the French Embassy will offer scholarships for the year 2011. Those scholarships are given to government officials, lecturers, students, with a priority to those involved in a cooperation program between France and Indonesia, to undertake two kinds of training:
- Master degree (full scholarship, max duration of 2 years)
- Doctoral degree (max duration of 18 months, only on a shared cost basis)

Ancora Foundation Graduate Fellowship at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University
One scholarship is offered each year for a one-year masters program at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
The RSIS has acquired a reputation as a leading research and graduate teaching institution in strategic and international affairs in Asia. It offers masters programs in international relations, international political economy, strategic studies and Asian studies. Each program is research-focused. Students will find the courses useful for diplomacy and policy-making.
The school has been successful in attracting top students, including many holding key government positions. These include promising diplomats and military officers from Indonesia, China, Vietnam and other regional countries.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should have:(a) a confirmed acceptance at the RSIS (b) an excellent academic record with a first degree equivalent to a good Second Class (Upper) Honors or higher or a GPA of at least 3.5; (c) a very good command of the English Language; (d) at least five years full time relevant work experience; and (e) assessed to have outstanding potential for leadership in government, business, or civil society after graduation.

This award covers:

UWC South East Asia 2011 Scholarship Program for NAD
Opening: UWC South East Asia 2011 Scholarship Program for NAD
We are opening 2 scholarships for UWC South East Asia, Singapore 2011 intake for students from Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, funded by Trafigura Foundation. This scholarship started in 2006 and was established initially to support children whose education was disrupted by the tsunami and is also aimed at building a post-conflict Aceh
The selection will be opened in January 3rd to January 28th, 2011. The winners will get 3 years full scholarships at the UWC SEA started from August 2011.
These are the basic selection criteria:
Academic:
- Academic result average with minimum 8.0 out of 10.0 (calculated from the 1stsemester of year 7 up to the 1st semester of year 9 of of Junior High School/SMP).
General Requirement:
- Indonesian citizens age between 14 – 16 (currently in 3rd year of Junior High School or SMP)
- Completed and signed application form
- Achievements in Extra curricular activities
- Completed reference forms from two referrers (see application form)
- 2 recent passport-size (4 x 6) colour photographs
- Certified copy of documents:
- Academic transcripts or report card from the first year until the last completed quarter/semester of Junior High School or SMP;
- Family card (Kartu Keluarga) and parents’ or guardian’s valid ID cards (KTP or passports);
- Certificates of courses (English, Computer, etc.), TOEFL or similar test’s result which may have been taken in the past.
- Also proof of being members of an organization, and other merits/awards which had been attained in the past. These are optional;

INTERNSHIP at the International Global Environmental Strategies , Japan
IGES is recruiting research interns for the Summer 2011 period (as stipulated in our Charter of Establishment) with the aim of promoting understanding of its strategic research. IGES internships offer an opportunity to gain on-site work experience, and are aimed at those who wish to play a part in interdisciplinary policy research toward sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region.

2. Requirements:
Interns must:
- Be postgraduates (location of graduate school does not matter).
- Be willing to learn from the on-the-job training at IGES (the internship is not a training
programme for students to write an individual thesis, but
rather an opportunity to experience real strategic policy research and
operational activities).
- Satisfy the individual criteria outlined in the “Internship Overview” for
the group with which you would like to spend your internship.
- The research intern should be proficient enough in English for the purposes of
oral communication and writing of documents.
3. Content of training:
The research interns will collect information for, or draft documents related to,
their own research group. Work is supervised by the director of or training supervisor
for the group to which the intern belongs. Those who are selected for internships will
be contacted by the relevant group director to discuss and agree on the specific
contents of training.
4. Term:
In principle, the internship should last a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of
3 months (and must fall between 1 April and 30 September 2011).

6. Conditions:
(1)Working Hours: Five days per week in principle (9:30-18:00)

(3)Accommodation:
a) IGES Hayama Headquarters
When the research intern cannot commute from his/her current residence to the office,
he/she will be able to use the accommodation at IGES headquarters free of charge
if there are vacant rooms (telephone charges will be at the research intern’s own expense).
b) IGES Kitakyushu Urban Centre
If the research intern cannot commute from his/her current residence to the office,
his/her will be able to use accommodation chosen by IGES. IGES will cover the room rent,
although utility charges, telephone charges, and any extra charges for additional services,
will be at the research intern’s own expense.
(4)Travel expenses:
a) If the research intern commutes from his/her residence in Japan, IGES (in accordance
with regulations) will cover the travel expenses necessary for the daily commute.
b) Travel expenses will be covered for interns who are receiving training at the Kitakyushu
Urban Centre and require accommodation chosen by IGES. IGES (in accordance with regulations)
will cover expenses incurred by the intern’s daily commute to work.
c) IGES does not cover expenses incurred for travel between the research intern’s home
and the accommodation they are using during their internship period.
